Students, staff and governors at Homewood School & Sixth Form Centre in Tenterden are celebrating after being graded ‘Good’ in their recent Ofsted report.  The inspectors recognised the school has significantly improved since its last inspection in 2019, where the school was judged as ‘Requiring Improvement’.

The report contains many positive comments with reference being made to successes across a wide range of areas.  The report states that pupils’ behaviour and attitudes are good overall.  They are respectful and inclusive in lessons and during social times.  Homewood’s updated curriculum was also referenced, stating that leaders have designed an ambitious curriculum based on the needs and interests of pupils.  The school’s new ‘Homewood Habits’ of Ambition, Determination, Self-control, Collaboration and Enthusiasm are also recognised as being integral to student progress and well-being with the report stating that the Homewood Habits provide a clear structure which leaders use to ensure that pupils’ personal development is promoted well.

Mr Jeremy Single, Principal, said: “We are delighted with our latest Ofsted report and are really pleased that the comments recognise the hard work and progress we have made over the last few years.  I would like to thank all of the students, parents, staff and governors for their continued support and dedication to the school.  As acknowledged in the report, we have ‘raised expectations of work, behaviour and attitudes’ and have ‘designed an ambitious new curriculum’.  We have also worked hard to create an environment where all ‘students feel known and valued’.  In short, this is a fantastic accolade for the school community.
