As a result approximately 50% of this course is on physics and chemistry content.

Two units are assessed by external examinations, and the remaining two are assessed by teacher assessed assignments. This is a vocational course, and the focus is split equally between learning content and carrying out practical tasks. The BTEC course gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment in the science sector. In the final unit of this course, biology specific content such as the physiology of human body systems will be covered, and it will be assessed by traditional BTEC assignments which are assessed by teachers.
