Summary of Trip

A mixture of Year 11 and 12 students studying Business subjects were lucky enough to experience the delights of Hogwarts in the Snow when they visited Harry Potter Studios for a tour and marketing lesson in December. The studio’s education team took us through the marketing of a movie, and looked at how and where money is spent on promotional activities. Students were then able to try their hand at creating a mini marketing campaign and concept for a movie idea they created. We were lucky enough to be shown some of the original props and costumes used in the making of the Harry Potter films and have some of the significance of these things explained to us. Finding out that a fake werewolves chest cost £5k to make and could only be used once, emphasised what a billion pound industry the Movie world was. 

Once the lesson was complete students were able to experience the magic first hand, by completing the studio tour, where some were able to take part in green screen broom flying and take photographs with the sets from the movie. Students really enjoyed being able to see business in action and we look forward to being able to arrange more experiences and opportunities for those studying in the department.
