Health and Social Care

Component one LAA:

Learners will be taught about human growth and development across all life stages.

Component three:

Learners will be taught the range of factors that affect health and wellbeing. 

Learners will also be taught how to measure health and interpret health indicators. 

Learners will complete coursework for component one LAA.

Learners will be taught how to design a person-centred health and wellbeing improvement plan. They will learn about how to overcome obstacles.

Component one LAB:

Learners will be taught about the factors that affect the growth and development of individuals.

Learners will be taught how to design a person-centred health and wellbeing improvement plan. They will learn about how to overcome obstacles.

Learners will sit their external assessment for component three.

Learners will complete coursework for component one LAB.

Component two LAA:

Learners are taught the different types of health and social care services and barriers faced trying to access them.

Component two LAB:

Learners are taught care values and the importance of reviewing practice.

Learners will complete component two LAB which involves role-playing.

Learners have the opportunity to resit component three.

Learners to complete coursework for component two LAA.

Study leave

This course is assessed by two internally assessed units worth 30% each and an external exam worth 40%.

Unit 1:

Learners are taught physical, intellectual, emotional and social development across all life stages.

Unit 2:

Learners will be taught the roles and responsibilities of workers and working practices within the health and social care sector.

Unit 1:

Learners are taught the factors that affect human growth and development. They will also look at the effects of ageing.

Unit 2:

Learners will be taught the roles of organisations in the health and social care sector and working with people with specific needs. 

Learners will sit their unit 1 exam in January.

Unit 5:

They will be taught the principles, values and skills which underpin meeting the care and support needs of individuals.

Learners will sit their unit 2 exam in January.

Unit 14:

Learners will begin completing unit 14 coursework.

Unit 5:

Learners will begin their first piece of coursework.

Unit 14:

Learners will continue with the completion of unit 14 coursework.

Unit 14:

Learners will be taught about physiological disorders and their care.

Study leave

This course is assessed by two internally assessed units and two external exams over the two years of study.

Unit 1:

Learners are taught physical, intellectual, emotional and social development across all life stages.

Unit 14:

Learners are taught physiological disorders and their care.

Unit 4:

Learners will be taught about the enquiries into current research in health and social care.

Unit 19:

Learners will complete coursework on nutritional health.

Unit 1:

Learners are taught the factors that affect human growth and development. They will also look at the effects of ageing.

Unit 14:

Learners will complete their first piece of coursework.

Unit 4:

Learners will continue to study enquiries into current research.

Unit 19:

Learners will continue on their fourth piece of coursework on nutritional health.

Learners will sit their first exam in January (unit 1) and submit their first piece of coursework (unit 14).

Unit 5:

They will then be taught the principles, values and skills which underpin meeting the care and support needs of individuals.

Unit 2:

Learners will be taught the roles and responsibilities of workers and working practices within the health and social care sector.

Unit 4:

Learners will sit their unit 4 exam.

Unit 8

Learners will complete their fifth piece of coursework which focuses on promoting public health.

Unit 2:

Learners will be taught the roles of organisations in the health and social care sector and working with people with specific needs. 

Unit 5:

Learners will complete their second piece of coursework.

Learners have the opportunity to re-sit any external components and ensure that all coursework has been submitted and signed off.

Learners will sit their second exam (unit 2)

Unit 7:

Learners will be taught about health and safety principles and begin their third piece of coursework.

Study leave

This course is assessed by 5 internally assessed units and 3 external exams over the two years of study.

Learners will be taught the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of individuals. Learners will also be taught family structures and the importance of primary socialisation.

Learners will be taught first aid in fractures, burns, electrocution, blood loss and poisoning. Learners will also have the opportunity to be taught CPR and the recovery position.

Learners will take part in the Step into the NHS competition. Learners will gain an awareness of the range of job opportunities in the NHS and the skills and qualifications required.

Learners will be taught healthy lifestyles and the impact this has on health and well-being. Learners will explore the effects of diet, exercise, mental health and substance abuse on an individual’s growth and development.

Learners will bring together all of their skills and knowledge to organise and host a community event. This will involve learners playing a lead role in the organisation and implementation of this event.
