Key Stage Three

Creative Arts

Creative Arts encompasses areas of study from Fine art, Textiles and 3D Design. The course aims to allow students to extend their knowledge and interest of the creative world. Students will explore a range of materials and techniques from each specialism. They will engage with contemporary makers and artists as a starting point to inspire their creative processes and styles. The course aims to develop students' artistic skills which could include drawing, painting, printing, collage, embroidery, fabric dyeing, sculpture, modelling, throwing and glazing. Students will learn ways to professionally present and analyse their work.

Term One: Autumn

Portraiture - developing drawing and painting skills, exploring printing, hand embroidery and clay work.

Term Two: Christmas

Cultures - developing drawing and painting skills, exploring pattern work, learning about the design industry, designing from life and 3D fabric work.

Term Three: Winter

Cultures continued - exploring more specialised techniques in 3D clay work and printing. Introduction to glazes and the screen printing process.

Term Four: Spring

Still life - developing compositional skills. Exploring collage, appliques and 3D clay pinch pots. Research into Vanitas and developing drawing and painting skills.

Term Five: Summer

Introduction to Year 10 projects for Textiles, Fine Art and Ceramics. Theme and artist research.


Digital Arts

Digital Arts encompasses areas of study from Media Studies, Graphic Design and Photography. The course aims to allow students to extend their knowledge and understanding of the creative and digital worlds. Students will explore themes around social, cultural and political issues, exploring the key concepts around media language, audience, representation and industry. Students will engage with contemporary makers and artists as a starting point to inspire their creative processes and styles. The course aims to develop students' practical skills in using a camera, using photoshop, experimenting and refining their hand drawing and artistic skills through exploring a range of materials and techniques. Students will gain an understanding of the creative process, from design to final product, along with developing their critical thinking and ability to analyse their own and others' work.

Experimenting with mixed media.

Studio photography & Photoshop.
