Homewood School staff and students were busy baking wonderful cakes during the evening before the first Staff Bake Off that took place on Friday 2nd February.
In total 17 delicious cake creations ranging from chocolate fudge, pavlova, chocolate chilli, salty caramel, chocolate owls, cupcakes and Victoria Sponges were made in aid of World College’s charity Great Ormond Street Hospital. The competition was judged by Principal Mrs S. Lees, staff and Year 11 World Leaders who chose the delicious Salty Caramel cake as the winner, baked by staff member Nicki Callingham.
The cakes were then sold during lunch time and proved very popular, raising £70 for the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
World College have supported Great Ormond Street Hospital since September 2017 and this was the second fundraiser, having done a sponsored walk in the autumn.
Year 11 World Leaders chose Great Ormond Street Hospital as the college charity for this year. Choosing a charity is their first task when becoming a World Leader at the start of the academic year and chose this charity as they wanted to help children.
Mrs Jones, Head of World College, was delighted by the response for the first ever Homewood Staff Bake Off and it has caused so much excitement another is planned for Monday 12th March. Mrs Jones says “I was really proud of the World Leaders who not only baked cakes, but organised the event and spent lunchtime selling the cakes for this very worthwhile charity.”
World Leaders are organising a Spring Concert in The Sinden Theatre on Monday 19th March at 6.30pm as a future fundraiser.
