Homewood School would like to congratulate Ben, who has received the “Young Artist of the Year” Award from local arts society NADFAS, based in Tenterden. Ben was nominated for the award by his teachers, who were impressed with his dedication and hard work throughout his Art GCSE and A Level studies. Ben has achieved an A* in Graphics GCSE, A in Ceramics GCSE and A in Ceramics As Level and continues to study these subjects at Homewood School. Ben’s dedication has meant that he has produced work above and beyond school level, in ceramics Ben has not only spent hours learning how to successfully work on the pottery wheel, but also learning about the chemistry of glazes, producing over 50 experiments into colour and texture. During the summer holidays, Ben completed a 6 week arts placement in Bulgaria through the EU Erasmus Scheme. During the visit, Ben, along with degree students from local universities, stayed with local artists, developing new skills and learning about life as a working artist in Bulgaria. Ben is using his experiences to influence his A2 studies in Ceramics.
On the 3rd October, Chairman of NADFAS Dr Liz Bamji awarded Ben his certificate in front of members. The charity also gifted Ben a cash prize which has enabled him to buy a DSLR camera which has been used to photograph art visits and his ceramics. This gift will continue to be important to Ben as he moves on from school into his future career. Ben was able to showcase his work at the event and meet lots of local members who were very complimentary, many purchasing pieces of his work. Homewood School looks forward to continuing this link with NADFAS in the future.
