Revision Workshops

Year 11 Saturday and Half Term English and Mathematics GCSE Workshops

Further to the exam preparation that Year 11 students are currently undertaking in lessons and at home, we would like to inform you of the Saturday morning English and Mathematics GCSE workshops that we are offering as an additional support strategy and which begin next term.

Science: Raising Achievement Programme

Students complete Core Science in Year 10 however they have the opportunity to improve on their grade in Year 11 by retaking exams or upgrading coursework. GCSE Science grades will therefore be awarded in summer 2011.

Retakes for Jan have to be handed in by Monday 27th September (£4.50 per exam). But you can also resit these exams in June.

You will be improving your coursework and not starting again. Coursework needs completing during year 11, final drafts by Mar 31st (this deadline cannot be moved).

The raising achievement programme will only be successful if a student is motivated to improve their grade.

ICT: Raising Achievement Programme

Similar to Science, grades for BTEC First ICT (GCSE equivalent) are not published until summer 2011. Therefore there is the opportunity for students to improve their work by attending extra sessions. The emphasis as with Science coursework is improving rather than starting again.

GCSE Maths Club

Starting the first week of the November term (Thursday 4th and Friday 5th November) the Maths department will be commencing a GCSE mathematics revision club in G3 after school from 3:45 – 4:30 weekly. The same lesson will be delivered on Thursday and Friday, so students attending need only attend on one of the two days. This will be a weekly meeting, aiming at students at grade D and above. This will be ongoing throughout the year to help boost students confidence and grades in Mathematics.
