Mathematics

The Mathematics Department is located within its own building and benefits from a pleasant working environment. The Department comprises of experienced staff who operate within a supportive and flexible manner.

We actively involve students in their own learning and care about success.

We:

  • Have a maths club, which is thriving, together with a maths clinic, which aims to give students the opportunity of gaining help with aspects of their work, on a one to one basis.
  • Regularly allow students to enter the National Mathematical Challenge that seeks to identify the problem solving ability of those taking part.
  • GCSE Students will follow the Edexcel Linear mathematics syllabus to be started in year 10.  There are two examinations in year 11 – the non-calculator and calculator exam.  We recommend the casio fx-83 GT plus calculator. ‘A’ level students will follow the Edexcel modular course.  A level students will sit Core 1 in Christmas, Core 2 and Statistics 1 in the summer.  A level students will sit Core 3 and Mechanics 1 in January of their second year, and Decision and Core 4 in the summer.
  • Aim to enthuse all students with the beauty and fascination of Mathematics whilst ensuring that they raise levels of achievement and attainment.

Our philosophy and vision is simple, we want for your children what we want for our own.
