Public Services Qualification
Qualification: BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Public Services
Optional at Year 11+
Public Services refer to services provided by a government for the benefit of its citizens. These are normally services that are available to all citizens, for the benefit of the society they live within. It is often the case that the vast majority of citizens would not pay individually for the service but do want the end result. This course looks at a range of organisations including the Armed Forces, Police, Fire and Rescue Service as well as the NHS, education and the council. Students learn about careers in these organisations and develop the skills which are vital to these services as well as to most careers. Skills include teamwork, communication, leadership, conflict management to name a few. The qualification is assessed 100% by coursework which takes the form of physical activity as well as written work, presentations and role plays.
The qualification includes a number of optional units, and students studying this qualification may complete the following units:
- Public Service Skills
- Improving Health and Fitness for entry to the uniformed public services
- Citizenship, the individual and society
- Sport and Recreation in the public services
- Land Navigation by map and compass
- Crime and its effects on society in public services
- Expedition skills in the public services
