Information Technology in a Global Society can be taught as a stand alone subject or as part of the IBCP which we offer here at Homewood. It can be taken at standard level (AS equivalent) or higher level (A level equivalent).
ITGS covers three strands, these are Social and ethical significance in which candidates look at the social and ethical considerations related to IT developments, Application to specified scenarios where candidates use scenarios to address IT developments in specified themes, and IT systems where candidates learn about the terminology, concepts and tools relating to IT developments.
For this course candidates will be expected to complete one coursework piece where the students provide and IT solution for a client and two exams at the end of the two years of study at standard level, for higher level the candidates also have to complete an ITGS Case study.
Within the IBCP Candidates will take one vocational option as part of their career related study equivalent to one A-level. Candidate will also undergo two IB Diploma subjects, each equivalent to one A-level. The Career Related Program will also teach students how to prepare for working life through the Core studies part of the program.
During the Core studies candidates will be developing their Personal and Professional Skills including applied ethics, they will develop their Service Learning, where they will be working with the local community, developing in creativity, activity and service. Candidate will also be given the opportunity in Language Development of Mandarin, applying the knowledge they learn to fundraising and community events.
Candidates will also complete a Reflective project on an ethical topic of their choice related to their Career related study.
If you were to take an IBCP option you would be opening yourself up to many opportunities that could shape your future. Not only is the Career Related Program recognised internationally it is also recognised by UCAS for students who wish to progress on to higher education.
The Career Related program is worth up to the equivalent of 3 or more A-Levels depending on the grades achieved. Each Diploma subject we offer (ITGS and Business Management) at Standard level is worth up to 70 UCAS points (130 for Higher Level), the vocational option is worth up to 140 UCAS points and the Reflective Project is worth up to 60 UCAS points. The International Baccalaureate Career Related Program provides candidates with a unique opportunity to experience an alternative education focussed on career pathways.
