New Romney Mini School comprises 4 departments:
Drama/Performing Arts
Media
Dance
Music and Art
The school became a Specialist Arts College in September 2002 which has ensured that Homewood has state of the art facilities and outstanding opportunities to offer its students.
These include:
• A dedicated professional standard community theatre.
• New 21st century Arts facilities for Music, Drama, Dance, Art and Media Studies.
• Strong links locally, nationally and internationally throughout the Arts.
• A broad arts enrichment programme for school and community to suit a wide variety of preferences.
Arts College Status enables the school to develop creative learning across the curriculum and to work closely with partner schools and the wider community. It helps to raise achievement across the ability range, leading to whole school improvement in performance.
The Sinden Theatre creates a focus for school and community and is used as a venue for a wide variety of performers, including visiting professional companies. Named after our Arts College Patron and international actor Sir Donald Sinden, the Theatre includes state of the art sound and lighting and caters for rock concerts and exhibitions as well as traditional Drama, Dance and Music events.
In addition to the Theatre, the Arts enjoy an enviable range of specialist teaching spaces including two Dance studios, two Drama studios, an open-air Amphitheatre, three Media classrooms, six Art rooms and rooms for Textiles, Graphics, Ceramics and Photography. In Music there is a digital recording studio, radio room, keyboard lab and practice rooms in addition to four teaching spaces, one of which is equipped specifically for teaching Music Technology.
We offer a wide variety of activities at lunchtimes, after school, at weekends and during the school holidays. These include Dance groups open to all ages and abilities, including a thriving Boys’ Dance Company which has performed by invitation all over the country and abroad. There are musical activities such as orchestra, choir, band practices, music competitions and musicals. In Drama students can join lunchtime clubs and can take part in play performances at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
