Careers education

The content of the careers education programme is based around statutory guidance for Careers.

Year 7 - Careers Activities

  • Year 7 Inspire Day - getting a taste of the World of Work
  • ​PSHRE Lessons - Careers Quiz/Research and My Dream Job, Interview Skills
  • ​Attendance at Annual Careers Fair

Year 8 - Careers Activities

  • PSHRE Lessons - Introduction to Higher Education, Careers Stereotyping and Picking Subjects/career planning
  • Year 8 Options Event 
  • Workplace Visits (from academic year 20/21)
  • Attendance at Careers/University Fair

Year 9 - Careers Activities

  • PSHRE Lessons - How to use Labour market Information, Jobs of the Future, Skills for Work, Job Families and Picking GCSE’s
  • STEM Careers Event
  • Attendance at Annual Careers/University Fair

Year 10 - Careers Activities

  • 1-1 or group guidance meeting with Careers Manager/Leader
  • PSHRE Lessons - Self Awareness, Making Career Decisions, Work Experience and Writing a CV
  • Attendance at Annual Careers/University Fair

Year 11 - Careers Activities

  • 1-1 in depth guidance meeting with Careers Manager upon request
  • PSHRE Lessons - Post 16 Options, Planning and Applying, Looking Ahead - Personal Statements, Exam Stress and Higher Education
  • Apprenticeships group sessions
  • 6th Form Options Event
  • Attendance at Annual Careers/University Fair 

Year 12 & Year 13 - Careers Activities

  • Careers PPD Sessions (delivered mainly by external speakers)  - University Life, Student Finance, Higher & Degree Apprenticeships, Introduction to UCAS, Skills Identification, Writing a CV and many more
  • Comprehensive support with Applications to University, Apprenticeships and Jobs
  • Mock Interviews
  • Post 18 Options, Looking for Work and Apprenticeships group sessions
  • Completion of 3-5 days of Work Experience in a Career area of interest (not to include part time work)
  • 1-1 careers guidance interviews upon request
  • CV and Cover Letter/E-mail Guidance
  • Work Experience 1-1 appointments with Work Placement Coordinator
  • Attendance at UCAS Higher Education Fair and University of Kent Apprenticeships and University Fair
  • Attendance at Annual Careers/University Fair
  • Opportunity to join the ready to Work programme and take part in an Industrial Work Placement.

In addition all year groups will take part in curriculum based careers activities within subject lessons and there will be the opportunity to talk with the Careers Manager at break times Monday - Thursday in the Careers Office.
